10th anniversary Northern Character is opening in Murmansk!

On November 23, the 10th Northern Character International Film&TV Festival will be opened. The Anniversary Opening Ceremony takes place in Kirov Culture Palace at 10:00.

Filmmakers and journalists from Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland will attend the largest film & TV forum in the Barents Region. The Festival Program includes public film screenings, project presentations, master classes and a Media Forum for journalistic debate. The 10th anniversary festival will be opened by the Norwegian film KARENINA & I, with the Norwegian actress Gørild Mauseth in the lead role, directed by Tomasso Mottola. Where as the Russian film SHORT WAVES, by director Mikhail Dovzhenko, will be closing the festival on Nov 25. The international Festival Jury this year consists of seven women - from Finland, Sweden, Russia and Norway, led by the Swedish director Gunilla Bresky

In total, 118 films and TV-programs were submitted to the festival, whereas 52 of them were selected for the Competition Program. Documentary and Short Fiction Film are the most popular categories. The Competition Program also includes categories for Documentary Debut, TV-Program, Portrait, Culture Program and Youth Program. Journalists and filmmakers, not only from Northern countries would like to participate at Northern Character. This year, applications came from Estonia, Belarus, Iraq, Iran, Uzbekistan, India, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Nigeria, Georgia – as well as from Norway, Sweden, Finland and various regions of Russia.

Northern Character´s Grand Prix is the most honorable prize at the festival. The prize winners in all categories will be announced at the Festival Awarding Ceremony on November 25 at 18.30 in the Children's Theater School in Murmansk.
