XI Northern Character is open

XI Northern Character International Film and TV Festival is opened in Murmansk for the 11th time. Delegations from Norway, Sweden, Finland and regions of Russia arrived in Murmansk - more than 100 participants in total.

Opening ceremony was held at the Kirov Culture Center. This year's Northern Character is one of the largest by number of participants. Expert council selected 82 films out of 174 entires. The international jury is headed by the Russian director Yusup Razykov.

“The festival first of all means work. The Northern Character festival is distinguished by a special working rhythm, working atmosphere as well as communication, friendship, discussions and so on”, - said Yusup Razykov at the opening ceremony.

The brightest events of the festival will be the opening of the Outdoor Cinema Theatre in the center of Murmansk, as well as the project “Murmansk Region as Shooting Location”, in which 25 filmmakers from entire Russia will visit the most beautiful and unusual places of the Kola Peninsula.

“My dream came true. Filmmakers from different countries will not just watch films but also produce them. And I am sure that participants of our project will definitely find something interesting for themselves and come to make films in the North”, -  said Svetlana Soldatova, president of the film festival.

Participants and guests of the festival were greeted by the Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Murmansk Region Sergey Ershov, who noted that the festival from a regional-scale event had turned out to be one of the most significant events in the Barents Region, a platform that gives a start to new projects.

Northern Character has been held in the Murmansk region since 2008. It is organized by TV-21 with the support of the Government of the Murmansk Region, Norilsk Nickel and the Presidential Grants Foundation.
